The reason I began belly dance classes was to help me with balance. I walked into my first class with Malik and I was immediately hooked. As a person with a disability, (I have MS) I had my concerns with what type of dance class to take to help me with my issues. I explained my status to Malik before class started and I knew it was immediately for me. My balance and coordination have improved. I'm way more steady and sturdier than I was before. Not to mention my husband loves the fact that I'm taking belly dance classes. Another important factor, Malik is a doll, she's very understanding, she breaks the moves down so they are easier to follow and she will answer all and any questions that I have. I took belly dance as a younger person and I was always at the back of the room never knowing what was really going on. My classes with Malik are vastly different. Malik knows all her students and is involved with everyone. She's always ready to help you. I can't think of a better way to become healthier and stronger.
The Zahara Fusion Troupe

Malik is also the director and choreographer of Zahara Fusion.
From the Troupe Members…
Lizzie (Co-choreographer): “I discovered belly dancing in 2002 and haven't been able to stop since the first class. I love the moves, I love that the dance celebrates the female form, I love how it can create a picture of the music for the audience. Being part of the troupe gives me the opportunity to share my enthusiasm for the dance at the same time as giving me a chance to work and play with a wonderful bunch of women. The troupe's exploration of different dance styles also provides a happy home for my current Bollywood addiction!”
Natalie: ”I enjoy belly dancing because it connects me to a feminine power and creativity that simultaneously comes through me and the other dancers. After dancing for a few years some moves come easily to me, and at the same time I am challenged by new and more difficult moves and choreography. Belly dance is a constant exploration of the body's strength and grace through movement.”
Tanya: “I've been taking belly dancing classes since 2007. I enjoy it because it is very dramatic and involves focused movement. The troupe is so much fun because you get to perform and work with wonderful people.”
Jennifer: “Being a woman in today’s society I have had many troubles with self-esteem and self-image, as I’m sure many women have. I began belly dancing in 2008, and I can’t begin to tell you what belly dance and Zahara Fusion have done for me. I have never been more confident or sure about myself in my entire life. This troupe has changed the way I see others and most importantly, myself. I have met the most caring and interesting women through this troupe and I love them all. It’s now my turn to dance for joy…with Zahara Fusion.”
